NCSD is considered by the Earth Council as a focal point for the Rio +10 preparatory process in the Central and Eastern European Region. Therefore, in accordance with the discussions with UNDP Romania and Capacity 21 Regional Program, Bucharest was chosen to host the "Regional Rio+10 Assessment Conference for Central Eastern European (CEE) Countries", in June 2001.
The purpose of this conference was to formulate and endorse two major documents for the region: CEE Recommendations for Rio+10 Earth Summit and CEE Regional Action Plan for Rio+10 Earth Summit.
Participating in the conference were representatives from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and former Yugoslavia.
